Investigation and Prosecution of Domestic Violence
Written by and for district attorneys, this manual contains detailed legal information on how to investigate and prosecute domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse and stalking cases in California. Individual chapters cover topics ranging from recognizing different forms of elder abuse, assessing batterers' lethality and evaluating pretrial release options to working with victim advocates, introducing expert witnesses and using children's testimony. In-depth discussions of penal codes, court procedures, and rules of evidence are intermixed with specific case study examples and legislative background information. Each chapter is succinct and well organized, written in language readily accessible to advocates as well as legal professionals. The original 1998 version was updated with replacement chapters in September of 2000.

Recommended for police, advocates, and others involved in developing a coordinated community response to domestic violence, as well as prosecuting attorneys and their staff.
